Chapter Ten

We found a spot about half a block away from the club and walked. I sensed nothing wrong but emotions were running high.

Matt and Gunner walked in and held the door as Paul and I arrived.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

Gunner just shrugged.

We piled inside the packed club. Mary Lou and Greg were already in there waiting.

Ivy walked up and hugged me. “What happened to your date night?”

“Just thought we’d pop in. Is Frankie here?” I asked. Whatever the ASAP thing was, Ivy wasn’t in on it.

“Somewhere. You have to loosen the reins, mother hen,” Ivy scolded.

I cringed at the sound of tapping on a microphone. I wasn’t the only one.

“What the hell?” Ivy asked.

It was Brody on stage.

“Ivy, babe, can you get up here?” Brody asked.

She looked at me.

I shrugged. “No clue.”

She squinted at me in disbelief but headed to the stage.

People made way and the murmurs told me some of them knew something big was up.

I had a feeling. Being stuck at the back, I couldn’t see—even in heels. I found a chair and stood on it.

Paul gave me a look.

“I own the place,” I whispered.

I pulled out my phone and turned on the video recording. I held it up to get the stage.

“Thanks, everyone, for coming. I wanted it to be a surprise and it’s hard to get anything over on Ivy here. We’re together so much because we love each other but it’s hard to do something special.” Brody took her hand.

Ivy smiled. “What’s going on?”

“I had to get some approvals and a ring. But all that stuff is over.” Brody knelt down.

The collective gasp in the club was epic.

I couldn’t dull my grin.

“Ivy, will you marry me?” Brody was short and sweet.

She nodded as if words failed her.

“Ivy, at a loss for words?” I joked.

“That’s a yes,” Greg shouted from the back.

Brody swept up Ivy and they hugged and kissed.

“Yes!” She finally found her voice.

The applause and shouts made conversation impossible. I climbed down and Paul nodded in approval.

I texted him: That explains so much.

Paul: Glad it’s good!
